The programme of events for 2012 will be up soon. In the meantime, this is what happened in 2011..... Extreme Horseriding never before seen in Scotland
The Drakes of Hazard
Riders of the storm
You'll have a spectacular day out at our festival. Glamis Castle is an amazing setting for an event such as the Countryside Festival, with it's beautiful parklands, and atmospheric castle. Just have a wander round. It's something special! We welcome dogs (and ferrets) and their owners, and invite you to take part in one of the many prize winning competitions we have at the festival. Have a look at the competitions page to have a go at one or more of our prize winning challenges in fly casting, clay shooting, archery, the scurry, or the children's dog show. In the main ring arena, we have Extreme Horseriding- horse boarding and stunt riding never seen in Scotland before, the hilarious Drakes of Hazard, and the exciting and beautiful Riders of the Storm equestrian vaulting team. There's the Horse and hounds (Sunday only) and the Terrier racing to enjoy too. Around the festival, for the horse lovers, we have Clydesdale horses, the Independent Horse's stables, and Higland Ponies. There are pony rides for the children, and prize winning farrier James Balfour will be demonstrating farriery. Long distance rider Kate Godfrey will be showing her Highland Ponies and explaining how they are used in the countryside. For the dog lovers, terrier racing, open terrier and lurcher shows, a dog scurry, and a children's "for fun" dog show with prizes. As well as this, you can have a go in the clay shooting competition, the fly casting competition, the scurry, or vote for the best shop in the festival. There are a lot of crafts represented at the festival, as well as the two craft marquees. You can see demonstrations of spinning and weaving throughout the event in the craft hall. You can try "have a go" at clay pigeon shooting, or shooting with air rifles, fly tying, mini quads, archery, paintball, and axe throwing. There are also face painting and story telling sessions which are not to be missed. Architecture Scotland are running a family den making workshop which looks like brilliant fun! If you want to shop have a look at our shops and exhibitors page. With only a couple of months until Christmas, many of the shops coming to the festival are offering special discounts. We have two craft marquees and over 300 shops selling a wide variety of goods. We also have a food marquee, where you can put together a picnic, or just taste something different. Make sure you don't miss the Highland Dancing on the hill, or the vintage vehicles, and if you see a few strolling ferrets, say hello, and think about bringing your own next year for the racing. It's a wonderful day out at Scotland's Countryside Festival. |
